Sen. Introduces Bill To Test Out Taxing Motorists For Every Mile They Drive

Democrat Sen. Mark DeSaulnier of California says the state's gas tax is no longer bringing in the revenue it used to. This is due to the increase in hybrid car owners. His plan is to bring forth a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax. That means you would be taxed for every mile you drive. For now this is said to be voluntary. But you have to wonder...who would volunteer to be taxed per mile when the gas prices are already too high? Let's not forget the many people who bought hybrids just to avoid paying extra.
